Fritz 5.32 with strongest free UCI engines and free CB engines

Fritz 5.32 was the first 32 bit Fritz GUI. A sensation when it was released, it is now available as a free program. Here is a description from Zarkon Fischer

:
[Fritz 5.32 is] now one of the best all-round free chess downloads on the net. Use it for playing, analysis, and managing databases.
http://www.top-5000.nl/dl.htm?file=dl/fritz532.zip

The program comes with the old, but strong, fritz 5.32 engine, and fritz 6 can be used from Chessbase light. There are also a few other free Chessbase engines for download. Aside from playing against fritz, you can use program to analyze your games, study opening statistics, and organize engine matches. One of its most useful abilities is to create and search large databases in either pgn or cbv format. You'll need an opening book such as the hand-tuned RybkaII.ctg.You could download a large database from Norm Pollock's site, or view the latest games from The Week in Chess.

n.b. to install in Windows 7, right-click on 532Setup.exe, choose Properties, select the Compatibility tab, and Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 98 / Windows Me.
Useful Short Cuts

F11 (main window) to view the opening book.

F2 (while playing) for the coach's suggestion.

T (database window) for the tournament table.

O (database window) for a game overview.

Ctrl Y to have Fritz analyze and comment a game.
Limitations

The only shortcoming of this program is that it doesn't handle UCI engines. Not bad for free.
This package is intended to rectify this "only shortcoming". Here is Fritz 5.32 with strongest free UCI engines installed. The method to install the UCI engines is not new but it requires some technical knowledge and lots of patience if you want to install many engines at once. This is where your friends at immortal forum step in. All you have to do is to download and unpack and everything is set up for you.

The list of installed UCI engines ( all the engines include the 64 bit version as well as the 32 bit version except Spike which comes only as a 32 bit engine. For Gull only 64 bit version is available for beta version R600 which is posted with author's permission. For 32 bit version the latest official version is used)

1. Stockfish 301213
2. Gull R 600 x64 and Gull 2.3 w32
3. Critter 1.6a
4. Houdini 1.5a
5. Strelka 5
6. Komodo 5
7. Fire 3.0
8. Bouquet 1.8
9. PanChess 00.537
10. IvanHoe 9.46b
11.RobboLito 0.21Q
12. Hannibal 1.4b
13. Protector 1.5.0
14. Spark 1.0
14. Spike 1.4 Leiden

Free ChessBase engines- Fritz 6, Fritz 6 light, Fritz 5.32 and a bunch of other free CB engines.

Limitations- muliti-PV is supported only for native engines.
-The UCI engines are meant for analyzing and playing against. The Chessbase WB adapter clears the hash after every move which affects the strength of the engines (I'd gueestimate around 70 Elo). There is a workaround involving inbetween utility to fix that but this pack is not intended to serve as an engine rating list platform.
-Only hash, EGTB path and cache and number of threads (only when the UCI option is named Threads) can be set in the RC file. Default values are used for everything else.

I plan to post documentation in a separate post which will include setting other UCI options. Also the necessary files for installing other uci/winboard engines in older CB GUIs and how to do it.

Many of the engines have GPL license. You can download the sources and licence from their respective sites posted in the links section.

Instructions on how to install UCI engine in old Chessbase GUIs. In French. I plan to add a second post in this thread later on, with instructions in English plus some oyher stuff.

Fritz 5.32 + Engines (extract and play)

ChessBase fonts

If Fritz asks for book you can get a free, strong ctg book from here.

Alternatively, you can also download the Fritz 5.32 installer yourself and copy the engines from my pack.

The UCI engines will also work with other old CB GUIs like Fritz 6, ChessBase 7 and ChessBase 8.

Yes, Ed has put together a very nice oldies collection. The basic idea of this post was not to post only Fritz 5.32 but also a quick and easy strong UCI engine pack to use with it.

Sadly, no. The old ChessBase winboard adapter has no concept of multi PV.

I can try to use inbetween for the UCI engines to send multi PV regardless (fixed in the inbetween.ini file, not GUI configurable) but I don't know how the GUI will handle this unsolicited multi-PV.

When I have some time, I'll try and let you know. But, I don't know if the GUI will display it correctly (because it is not expecting multi-pv) and even if it does, you cannot change muti-pv on the fly. It has to be changed in the ini file.

Re: Fritz 5.32 with strongest free UCI engines and free CB engines

Hi guys, I have Fritz 5 on cd and it plays so fast on Handicap levels it's insane. Fritz 5.32 plays as fast and I am wondering if it's possible to reduce it's playing pace. Thanks a lot.
