The Story
Hannibal is developed by Sam Hamilton and Edsel Apostol. It has shared the same genes as Twisted Logic at its infancy and has mutated into a different and stronger entity when genetically combined with the LearningLemming genes.
The Inner Workings
Hannibal is a UCI chess engine that uses alpha beta as the main search algorithm with various computer chess specific heuristics. It uses a bitboard representation. It supports the Polyglot book format.

HIARCS - World Chess Software Champion 2011.
HIARCS stands for Higher Intelligence Auto Response Chess System.
The HIARCS chess engine was first developed in 1980 but its current roots
began in 1986. HIARCS 14 WCSC is the current World Chess Software Champion
having won the title in Tilburg, The Netherlands in November 2011.
This HIARCS 14 series chess engine is/will be available on the Apple Macintosh,
PC Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad platforms in due course.
